THE CHILDREN'S BOOK BANK
The Children’s Book Bank is a registered charity that supports childhood literacy by providing free books and literacy support to children in low-income neighbourhoods in the Toronto area.
The Children’s Book Bank collects and distributes gently used children’s books and distributes them free of charge to children who might not otherwise have a chance to own their own books. This gives these children a chance to build their own treasured libraries and to develop a lifelong love of reading. The Children’s Book Bank opened its doors in May 2008 and in its first five years of operation gave away over 400,000 free books! While The Children’s Book Bank endeavors to use all donated books, those books that are unsuitable for Book Bank customers are donated to local agencies, recycled, or are provided to other organizations.
The Children’s Book Bank also offers literacy support programs including Stories for Students, Books Beyond Berkeley Street, and B3 – Babies Building Brains.
